Sky Blue and Yellow

july2010-095

Sky blue fondant with daisy’s and yellow banding! The cake was all vanilla alternating vanilla and blood orange buttercream. It was the perfect cake for a beautiful farm wedding in Green Bay VA (I didn’t know there was a GB here but it was a very pretty place).

I made a gumpaste Claddagh for the cake topper as a nod to the groom!

Wallpaper Cake

The blog took a little summer vacation this past month, but we are back! The above cake detail was a part of Petites Bouchees Dessert table. I used the wallpaper for the flower details.  If you haven’t had a chance to see the whole table please check out all of the wonderful vendors who participated.  The photo’s were taken by Quarterman Photography.

Layne and Sean’s Cake

A pretty cake with fresh flowers, ribbon and swiss dots. The yellow cakes were alternated with Dulce de Leche and Black Raspberry all with French vanilla buttercream.  Congratulations to Layne and Sean!

Fruit Forward

caking-162

Fresh fruit when in season is such a lovely and price friendly way to decorate a cake!

This cake at the Kent Valentine House (BTW one of my favorite  venues in RVA) was for Abigail and Branch. I wish them all the happiness in their marriage!

My step sister graduated from high school the same weekend so I got to use the extra fruit for her coconut cake.

Candy Colored Cupcakes

Annie and Michael were married at Lewis Ginter this past weekend and the colors were so pretty. Teal, hot pink, and white. The flavors she used where white, chocolate fudge, and carrot cakes all with vanilla icing.

Annie used these little flower cupcake flags that tied back into being at the botanical gardens.

Congratulations Annie and Michael!

Cookie Love

I was very excited to be a part of the third issue of Nonpareil Magazine.  I had to share some of the photos that were taken by Katie Stoops and styled by Courtney of Merriment Events.  All of the cookies were baked by Sweetest Thing.

cookie2

We had 7 different types of cookies: Chocolate Sandwich’s, Pinwheels, Sprinkles, Checkerboards, Alphabets, Lollipops (inspired by Martha Stewart), and the all time Chocolate Chips.

Gotta have Milk with cookies!

All of the printed material was designed by Maddy Hauge and can be downloaded here.

Love these sandwich cookies and this photo!

cookie7

I would love to get a little package of cookies like this after a wedding.

Courtney made this sweet spring bouquet!

So hope you enjoyed this as much as we did and stop by Nonpareil for a gander at all of their issues!

Magnolia’s

caking-156

These buttercream cakes went all the way down to South Hill Virginia this past Saturday. Because of the heat I packed them into my giant coolers for safe travels. Each cake was adorned with a gumpaste Magnolia and sheer champagne ribbons.  The satellite cakes served additional guests and was a classy alternative to sheet cakes.

The flavor was yellow cake with black raspberry and vanilla buttercream.

Pretty Sweet at Broad Appetit

Meghan McSweeny took some tasty photos of our Broad Appetit spread! Her work is on another level and she was so nice to stop by with her camera.

I love Vanilla beans and I love shortbread….SO I used a few beans and made some intensely vanilla shortbread.

I was overly impressed by the number of Food goers at the event that knew what Nanaimo Bars were! Seriously so delicious and when my brother and I discovered they are no longer serving them on the BC ferries any more I thought I was going to have to wipe away tears. They have a base of Grarahm crackers, coconut, pecans, cocoa… A very creamy/custardy center with a ganache top. YUM.

Orange and Teal

I think this is a great color combo for summer! The bride also had the same colored pom-poms hanging from rafters at the farm she was getting married at, it looked very it was going to be a very fun party. This cake was coconut and orange scented buttercream.
